The Mitchell Kertzman effect has persuaded Sybase Inc chief financial officer Ken Goldman that he’d be better off elsewhere, and has left the troubled Emeryville, California database vendor to become senior VP and CFO of At Home Inc, a start-up Sunnyvale company that plans to offer cable customers access to the Internet. At Home is backed by Tele-Communications Inc, Comcast Corp, Cox Communications Inc and venture capitalists Kleiner Perkins Caulfield & Byers. Sybase has promoted Jack Acosta, from VP engineering services and operations of the Enterprise Business group, to replace Goldman. Sybase CEO and founder Mark Hoffman moved upstairs to become chairman to leave former PowerSoft Inc CEO and founder Kertzman in charge earlier this month (CI No 2,959).
