Software AG America, the newly independent arm of the German software house, is set to acquire Cambridge, Ontario-based software company Nickel Technologies, for an undisclosed sum. Nickel Technologies, or Ni-tech, Software AG’s former Canadian affiliate, will become known as Software AG (Systems) Canada and will retain its 80-odd employees. The acquisition forms part of the company’s expansion strategy following its break away from parent company Software AG last May (CI No 3,166). Valued at $13.6m, Ni-tech was established in 1974 and provides enterprise software systems, data warehousing and applications engineering to customers within the banking , education, government, manufacturing, telecommunications and utilities sectors. The new business unit will be headed by Software AG America’s recently appointed vice president of marketing and international operations, Tim Hill, who wouldn’t comment on the value of the deal, or make predications as to how it will affect its revenues. Hill said because the two firms have worked so closely in the past, the acquisition is complementary to its business. More acquisitions are promised in the future.
