Peoplesoft Inc announced details of its idea of life beyond Enterprise Resource Planning last week as it discussed its Enterprise Resource Optimization model and PeopleSoft manufacturing applications. The company believes that the current resource planning systems are out of date with increased business pressures due to their reliance on the traditional manufacturing resource planning logic and business approach. The new resource optmization approach is claimed to result in a flexible, customizable component based system that enables the software to change as the business changes, with components for supply chain optimization, product configuration, a transactional engine and workflow. The components are assembled with tools that enable users to customize component look, feel and behavior. PeopleSoft claims the model can optimise both tangiable assets such as inventory and capacity as well as intangiable assets including workforce, suppliers and the customer, enabling reduced inventory on hand, improved throughput, streamlined business processes, managed strategic supplier relationships, and delivery of products to customers. No firm details of the architecture are available at the moment.
