Cirrus Logic Inc is integrating three-dimensional sound technology from Aureal Semiconductor Inc into its audio accelerator. Aureal’s A3D Interactive and A3D Surround will be integrated into Cirrus’ SoundFusion PCI audio accelerator. Aureal announced its A3D spatial sound technology in March. Based on Microsoft’s Sound3D applications programming interface, the technology simulates sound coming from many directions, although the system runs on ordinary speakers or headphones. A3D Interactive provides on the fly three dimensional positioning of sounds in interactive environments such as video games, while A3D Surround produces Dolby quality playback of pre-recorded, surround sound audio tracks over a pair of speakers.
