NextLevel Systems Inc, a leading manufacturer of set top terminals, is to invest an unspecified sum in WorldGate Communications Inc, a cable service that offers internet access through the television set. The two companies have also agreed on a joint marketing operation to promote WorldGate’s service using NextLevel’s analog and digital set-top terminals. The WorldGate service allows cable operators to offer internet access as an addition to existing services for about $5.00 per month. In January this year, Westgate, from Trevose, Pennsylvania, raised $11m from a group of investors – including Motorola Inc and Citycorp – its first cash injection since it was formed a year earlier.
