Some exquisite sophistry is being cooked up by Microsoft Corp over what looks likely to be its parting of the ways with Citrix Systems Inc, which must feel it has been dumped on from a great height. A Microsoft product team is working on integrating multi- user capability into its Windows NT server software, senior vice- president Jim Allchin told Reuters, adding today, we have no plans other than to build it ourselves. He said Microsoft already had a team of reasonable size working on developing multi-user capability, and We have determined that we are going to complete this and make it available. But declined to say how long Microsoft had been developing the software or when the capability would become available; but then a a Microsoft spokeswoman cane back to say the company wanted to clarify its earlier comments, that it had not ended its talks with Citrix, and that Microsoft is going to deliver this (the multi-user capability) in the operating system, but How they do it, no decision has been made although the solution will be offered from Microsoft, she said, adding that how the technology ends up inside the operating system has not yet been determined – it could be through licensing the technology from Citrix, or another company, or from Microsoft itself. The market is certain Citrix will now struggle.
