The unsentimental picking over of the carcass of the once-proud Memorex Corp in its latterday Memorex Telex NV incarnation, continues, and the latest bit to go goes right back to the company’s original core. Santa Clara, California-based Sutmyn Storage Corp has acquired the US storage business of Memorex Telex and turned it into a wholly-owned subsidiary, Sutmyn Storage Distribution Co. It inherits an installed base of storage products in over 600 customer sites throughout the US. Sutmyn has also been working with Fujitsu Ltd on a new line of virtual tape storage systems, and says it will now distribute Fujitsu’s machine independent tape drive and automated tape library products in mainframe and open systems user sites. Sutmyn has financial backing from Kanematsu Ltd, which will make available its worldwide logistical resources in support of the new company. DecisionOne Inc, which has acquired the former US storage service division of Memorex Telex, will provide Sutmyn Storage Distribution Co with service and support.
