As part of its Arabica (or Blue Beans) technology project, IBM Corp expects to bring out a new version of OpenDoc around summertime with the anticipated support for Java Beans components and the Java Development Kit Release 1.1, as well as ActiveX and OCX support. OpenDoc already supports Java applets, and the Java Beans-to-OpenDoc bridge will enable OpenDoc desktop applications to host Java Beans desktops and provide more flexible target environments for, say, OS/2 and Windows application developers. Other Arabica technologies include the drag and drop applet author and VisualAge for Java tools now in beta, which have been derived from what was formerly known as Arabica’s Tazza development tool suite. VisualAge for Java will both consume and generate Java Beans.
