Paris-based Telnos SA, a small French firm specialising in software for Unix, has re-focussed its strategy to concentrate on office automation by releasing a product which integrates its present Unix product line, reports 01 Informatique. Its product line includes T Text word processor, T Calc spreadsheet, T Graph charting and graphing, T Mail electronic mail and T File file management. The new version, Profil T, integrates all the office automation applications, making it possible to swap between functions. The 13 functions that make up the product can also be bought separately, and the company has developed an SQL database interface. T SQL currently communicates with the Informix relational database management system, and will soon support Oracle; and Unify and Ingres are planned to follow. Telnos is one of the three companies – the other two being the American Quadratron Inc and the British Uniplex Ltd – which together dominate the Unix office automation software market, but contract for 22,000 copies of its Unix word processor from AT&T Co for its US Air Force has increased the standing of the Telnos. In addition to this, in an effort to break seriously into the rest of Europe, Telnos is also looking to sign up value-added resellers.
